President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the immediate dissolution of the Presidential Implementation Committee (PIC) on the Alienation of Federal Government Properties.
The decision was announced in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, all responsibilities previously handled by the committee will now be overseen by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
The committee was established in 2000 under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo to supervise the privatisation, sale and lease of Federal Government landed assets as part of the government’s monetisation policy.
Its membership comprised representatives from several ministries, including Housing, Transportation, Justice, Health and Agriculture, as well as the Nigeria Police Force, with officials drawn from both the public and private sectors.
The Presidency said a review of the committee’s operations showed that its activities had extended beyond its original mandate, resulting in numerous legal disputes across the country.
It stated that the continued existence of the committee was no longer necessary, prompting the President’s decision to dissolve it.
The statement further directed that all matters relating to the committee’s responsibilities be coordinated by the Attorney General of the Federation with effect from November 5, 2025.
In addition, the former Secretary of the committee, B. S. Dutsin-Ma, was directed to immediately cease acting on behalf of the dissolved committee or the Federal Government on matters relating to its activities.
The Presidency said the move is aimed at streamlining the administration of issues relating to Federal Government properties and ensuring more effective coordination through the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation.
