Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has approved a fresh round of appointments, created new government agencies and reshuffled his cabinet as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve project delivery across the state.
The appointments, announced in a statement on Wednesday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula, include the establishment of the Benue Road Maintenance Agency, the Agency for Recreation and Parks, and the appointment of a State Coordinator for the North Central Development Commission.
Engineer Thaddeus Terngu Tarzomon was named General Manager of the newly created Benue Road Maintenance Agency, while Dr Ben Ebe was appointed State Coordinator of the North Central Development Commission. Mercy Turugh was appointed Executive Secretary of the Agency for Recreation and Parks, and Samuel Terungwa Agwa emerged as the State Coordinator of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
Governor Alia also constituted an eight-member Benue State Project Monitoring Team headed by Engineer Dr Feliox Atume. The committee is mandated to monitor government projects, ensure compliance with approved specifications and budgets, inspect project sites, identify delays or substandard work, advise the government on value-for-money considerations and submit periodic reports to the Governor.
In a cabinet reshuffle, the Governor redeployed the Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. James Dwam, to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs with immediate effect.
The Governor also forwarded the name of Hon. Ankwa Amo II to the Benue State House of Assembly for confirmation as a commissioner.
According to the government, the appointments and restructuring are aimed at enhancing institutional efficiency, improving infrastructure delivery, strengthening development coordination and ensuring effective monitoring of government projects across Benue State.
