The Nigerian Senate has commenced its annual two-month legislative recess after adjourning plenary to Tuesday, September 15, 2026.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the recess during Thursday’s plenary and directed standing and ad hoc committees to continue their oversight functions and work on pending reports during the break.

Lawmakers are also expected to use the recess to undertake constituency engagements and monitor the implementation of government programmes in their respective constituencies.

The annual recess is part of the Senate’s legislative calendar and precedes the commencement of a new legislative year for the 10th National Assembly.
