The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Rivers State Command, has disclosed that more than 10,000 driver’s licences remain unclaimed across the state despite the availability of nine licence issuing centres.
The Rivers State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Francis Ajata, disclosed during an appearance on a live programme on Family Love FM.
Ajata said the command currently operates nine driver’s licence issuing centres across Rivers State to make the processing and collection of licences more accessible to motorists.
He, however, expressed concern that thousands of processed licences had yet to be collected by their owners, noting that a significant number of them had already expired before being claimed.
The Sector Commander urged members of the public who had completed the driver’s licence capture process to visit the designated centres and collect their valid licences without further delay.
He also condemned acts of extortion by personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps during patrol operations, describing such conduct as unacceptable.
Ajata encouraged members of the public to report any FRSC official found engaging in extortion or other unethical practices, assuring that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against erring officers.
He further advised motorists and other road users to exercise caution while travelling, particularly during the rainy season, stressing the need to obey traffic regulations and adopt safe driving practices to prevent road crashes.
The FRSC commander reiterated the Corps’ commitment to promoting road safety and ensuring professionalism among its personnel across Rivers State.
