The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Riliwan Disu has reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to protecting critical national power infrastructure and combating energy theft across the country.
He gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the Minister of Power, led by Chief Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, and a delegation from the ministry to the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
During the meeting, both parties discussed security challenges affecting the power sector, with particular focus on the persistent vandalism of electricity infrastructure and the growing incidence of energy theft across the country.
Tegbe appealed for sustained collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Power and the Nigeria Police Force to strengthen the protection of critical power installations, enhance surveillance of electricity infrastructure, and intensify efforts to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for vandalism and energy-related crimes.
Responding, IGP Disu assured the delegation of the Police Force’s readiness to work closely with the ministry to safeguard national power assets.
He reiterated the Force’s commitment to improving energy security through enhanced policing of critical infrastructure and ensuring that individuals involved in vandalism and energy theft are brought to justice.
The minister was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mahmud Mamman; Director of Distribution, Engr. Mustapha Baba-Umara; Director of Energy Resources, Engr. Kingsley Eneh; and the Special Assistant to the Minister, Martins Olajide.
