FINAL-YEAR MEDICAL STUDENT DIES AFTER RUSSIAN AIRSTRIKE IN UKRAINE

A 23-year-old final-year medical student at Kharkiv National Medical University, Nnani Adaobi Marian, has died after sustaining severe injuries during a Russian airstrike in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

According to reports, Adaobi was critically injured on June 29, 2026, when Russian forces launched a guided aerial bomb attack on the Kholodnohirskyi district of Kharkiv. She later died on July 5 in a hospital in Germany, where she had been transferred for specialised medical treatment.

The incident occurred while Adaobi and her close friend, Fatima Huseynova, were on their way to a graduation photoshoot, just one day before they were scheduled to receive their medical degrees.

Fatima was killed instantly during the attack, while Adaobi suffered life-threatening injuries.

The development was disclosed by Kateryna Bohuslavska, popularly known as “Kate from Kharkiv,” who has consistently provided updates on the Russia-Ukraine war.

Sharing the news on her X account, Bohuslavska said medical teams in both Ukraine and Germany fought to save Adaobi’s life, but she eventually succumbed to her injuries.

In a statement titled “In Memory of Nnani Adaobi Marian,” Kharkiv National Medical University described Adaobi as an outstanding student whose dedication, intelligence and compassion distinguished her throughout her academic journey.

The university said she enrolled in the institution in 2020 and consistently demonstrated academic excellence, professionalism and a strong commitment to medicine.

It noted that Adaobi actively participated in international academic programmes and research, completing internships at the University of Cambridge in 2024 and Biruni University in Turkey in 2025.

According to the institution, she was known as a hardworking, friendly and compassionate individual who was always eager to learn and help others.

The university extended its condolences to her family, friends, classmates and everyone who knew her, describing her death as a painful loss to the institution.
