The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the critical role of Regimental Sergeant Majors in promoting discipline, leadership and operational effectiveness in the Nigerian Army.
Speaking during the commissioning of the newly constructed 6 Division Regimental Sergeant Major’s House in Port Harcourt, the Army Chief described RSMs as the backbone of regimental administration and custodians of discipline and morale.

Lieutenant General Shaibu said providing quality accommodation for RSMs is part of the Army’s “Soldier First” welfare initiative and a strategic investment in strengthening leadership at the unit level.
He noted that improved welfare for key personnel would enhance operational readiness and support the Nigerian Army’s efforts to address the country’s evolving security challenges.
