The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has warned tertiary institutions against withholding tuition refunds due to students under the Federal Government’s student loan scheme.
In a statement issued by its Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, NELFUND expressed concern over reports that some institutions have failed to refund students who paid their tuition fees before the Fund later settled the same fees on their behalf.
The Fund disclosed that it is engaging the affected institutions and relevant authorities to ensure full compliance with the objectives of the student loan programme.

NELFUND also condemned reports of arbitrary increases in tuition fees and other institutional charges, describing such actions as inconsistent with the purpose of the Federal Government’s student loan initiative.
According to the Fund, the scheme was established to eliminate financial barriers to higher education and should not be used as a basis for imposing additional financial burdens on students.
The agency reiterated its commitment to protecting the interests of beneficiaries and ensuring that eligible students receive the full benefits of the student loan programme without undue hardship.
