The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has charged newly graduated soldiers of the Nigerian Army to confront terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements with courage and determination while upholding professionalism and respect for human rights in the discharge of their duties.

The Army Chief gave the charge on Saturday during the Passing Out Parade of the 90 Regular Recruit Intake at the Nigerian Army Depot, Zaria, Kaduna State.

Addressing the new soldiers, Lieutenant General Shaibu said they were joining the military at a critical period in the nation’s security landscape and would be expected to contribute meaningfully to ongoing operations to tackle terrorism, insurgency, banditry and other security threats across the country.

He noted that the recruits had undergone rigorous military training, including counter-terrorism and counter-insurgency exercises, equipping them with the skills required to operate effectively in various theatres of operation.

The COAS stressed that while the Nigerian Army remains committed to denying criminal elements any haven, all military operations must be conducted within the framework of the Rules of Engagement and the Law of Armed Conflict.

He urged the soldiers to remain disciplined, professional and loyal to the Constitution, emphasising that Nigerians look up to the Armed Forces to protect lives, defend national sovereignty and preserve public confidence in security institutions.

Lieutenant General Shaibu also warned the soldiers against irresponsible use of social media, cautioning that the unauthorised dissemination of sensitive information could compromise military operations and national security.

He advised them to exercise restraint and maintain the highest standards of conduct both online and offline.

The Army Chief acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in strengthening the operational capabilities and welfare of military personnel.

He assured that the Nigerian Army would continue to provide the necessary support and leadership required to enable troops to effectively discharge their responsibilities.

The Passing Out Parade formally marked the completion of military training for the recruits and their induction into active service.

Military authorities said the newly enlisted soldiers are expected to reinforce ongoing operations across the country as part of efforts to restore peace, stability and security.
