The Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr Ola Olukoyede, has urged students across Nigeria to embrace integrity as a core value, stressing that the fight against corruption cannot succeed without it.

Olukoyede gave the charge on Friday during an interactive session with members of the Integrity Club of Anglican Girls Grammar School, Apo, Abuja, where he encouraged the students to uphold honesty, accountability and ethical conduct in all aspects of their lives.

Represented by the Head of Radio, Deputy Commander of the EFCC (DCE) Nwanyinma Okeanu, the EFCC chairman said integrity remains one of the most important values for personal success and national development.

“We are here to encourage you and remind you that integrity is one thing the EFCC holds dear. If you don’t have integrity, you won’t go far in life. Integrity should be the watchword in everything you do; it should start with you,” she said.

According to her, young people must cultivate integrity early in life if they hope to contribute meaningfully to building a better Nigeria.

“As someone planning for a brighter future, you need integrity. If you have integrity, Nigeria will rebrand itself. Your parents want the best for you, so make them proud, aim higher and become people of integrity because the future of Nigeria starts now and it begins with you,” she added.

Okeanu further encouraged the students to remain good ambassadors of their families and school, urging them to spread the values and lessons gained through the Integrity Club wherever they find themselves.

Also speaking, the Head of Enlightenment and Reorientation at the EFCC, Assistant Commander of the EFCC (ACE II) Aisha Mohammed, educated the students on the mandate and functions of the anti-graft agency.

She described members of the Integrity Club as “foot soldiers” of the EFCC and called on them to serve as role models among their peers.

“In the EFCC, what we do is prevent, investigate and prosecute corruption. It is because of the prevention mandate that we are here to talk about integrity at this early stage of your life because you are the future of Nigeria,” Mohammed said.

She urged the students to avoid activities that could compromise their future, particularly the misuse of social media and digital platforms.

Mohammed warned against sextortion and the sharing of inappropriate content online, noting that many lives have been negatively affected by such practices.

“We cannot fight corruption alone, so be that person who will stand out and change the narrative,” she said.

In her remarks, the Head of the School’s Integrity Club, Maton Dorcas, expressed appreciation to the EFCC and the school management for organising the programme.

She described the engagement as enlightening and impactful, assuring the officials that members of the club would put the lessons learned into practice.

The outreach forms part of the EFCC’s preventive strategy aimed at instilling values of integrity, accountability and responsible citizenship among young Nigerians as a means of combating corruption at its roots.
