The Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA), Prince Akpan Ikim, has thrown his weight behind the forthcoming Leadership Anniversary Summit being organised by the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District Media Advocates (ISDMA), describing the initiative as a valuable platform for celebrating exceptional leadership and promoting development.
Prince Ikim made the remarks during a courtesy visit by the leadership of ISDMA to his office in Uyo, where he commended the organisation for its commitment to leadership development, public enlightenment, and constructive engagement on issues affecting the Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District.
The AKSEPWMA chairman praised the group’s efforts in fostering positive dialogue and promoting initiatives that contribute to the growth and progress of the state.

He also pledged his support for the summit and encouraged ISDMA to continue championing mentorship, youth empowerment, and leadership succession as critical tools for sustainable development.
“You have a lot of work to do. We must use this platform to project our younger ones and help them grow. The elders should be encouraged to support the younger generation. There must be a deliberate effort to achieve that,” he said.
Prince Ikim further urged the organisation to intensify public awareness campaigns on the importance of active participation in the democratic process, stressing that voter turnout remains a key factor in attracting government attention and developmental projects to communities.
According to him, communities that actively participate in elections are better positioned to influence governance and benefit from government programmes and infrastructure projects.
“People must be sensitised on the need to participate in elections. When citizens come out to vote, they strengthen their voice in governance and position their communities to benefit more from government projects and programmes. Political participation is critical to development,” he stated.
The former Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Area emphasised the importance of recognising and celebrating leaders who have distinguished themselves through visionary leadership, dedication to service, and measurable contributions to societal development.
He noted that honouring such individuals helps to preserve a culture of excellence while inspiring future generations to embrace responsible leadership and public service.
Prince Ikim also called on citizens to continue supporting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Umo Eno, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, whom he credited with implementing policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare of Nigerians and advancing national development.
Earlier, the President of ISDMA, Mr Emma Akpabio, explained that the Leadership Anniversary Summit is designed to highlight the developmental achievements resulting from the collaborative leadership of Governor Umo Eno and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

He added that the event would also provide an avenue for meaningful discussions on governance, leadership, public policy, and strategies for sustainable development within Akwa Ibom State and beyond.
The summit is expected to bring together political leaders, stakeholders, professionals, youth groups, and members of the media to examine leadership milestones and chart pathways for continued progress and inclusive development.
