The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has confirmed that five Iranian vessels, including three oil tankers and two ships carrying essential goods, have successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz following the reported easing of a United States naval blockade.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the IRGC said the lifting of restrictions had become operational, allowing Iranian vessels to resume movement through one of the world’s most strategically important waterways.

The development comes hours after the United States military reportedly stated in an advisory notice that restrictions on Iranian ports remained in effect pending the formal signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Iran, scheduled for June 19.

The Strait of Hormuz has been at the centre of heightened tensions since April, when the United States imposed a naval blockade that effectively restricted vessels travelling to and from Iranian ports from transiting the vital shipping route.

The blockade significantly impacted regional trade and energy shipments, raising concerns among international stakeholders about potential disruptions to global oil supplies.

However, diplomatic efforts involving Iran, the United States and Pakistan have reportedly resulted in the finalisation of a framework agreement aimed at ending the conflict. The parties announced early Monday that a formal Memorandum of Understanding had been concluded following weeks of negotiations and is expected to be officially signed in Switzerland on Friday.

Following the announcement of the agreement, US President Donald Trump reportedly directed that the anti-Iran naval blockade be lifted, paving the way for the resumption of maritime activities involving Iranian vessels.
