No fewer than 20 people have lost their lives following a deadly attack by suspected bandits on Fesken Rafi community in Arewa Local Government Area of Kebbi State, intensifying concerns over security in the region.

The Kebbi State Government has expressed sadness over the incident, describing it as a devastating tragedy. Authorities extended their condolences to the bereaved families and residents affected by the attack.

During a condolence visit to the community on Saturday, Deputy Governor Umar Tafida led a state government delegation and reassured residents of the administration’s determination to address insecurity and protect citizens across the state.

Tafida disclosed that additional security personnel and operational support would be deployed to the area to reinforce ongoing security efforts, restore peace and prevent future attacks.

“We sympathise with the affected families and remain committed to safeguarding lives and property throughout Kebbi State,” the deputy governor said.

Officials from the local government and state legislature informed the delegation that the attack occurred earlier in the week and resulted in heavy casualties. They also acknowledged the efforts of Governor Nasir Idris in supporting communities affected by insecurity and strengthening security measures across the state.

Traditional leaders, including the Dikkon Kabi, Alhaji Kabiru Sulaiman, who represented the Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, as well as the District Head of Bui, Alhaji Abubakar Dan-Malam, commended the government’s response to the incident.

The traditional rulers appealed for the construction of a road linking Fesken Rafi to the nearest major highway, arguing that improved access would enhance security operations, boost economic activities and improve the welfare of residents.
