Akwa Ibom State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening business-friendly policies and reforms aimed at attracting investments, improving service delivery, and enhancing the state’s competitiveness as an investment destination.

The commitment was reiterated on Wednesday by the Commissioner for Finance and Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Ease of Doing Business Council, Mr Emem Almond Bob, during the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) Nationwide Subnational Engagement and Technical Reform Workshop 2026 held in Uyo.

The workshop, themed “Business-Enabling Reforms and Investment Competitiveness,” brought together government officials, business stakeholders, and reform experts to discuss strategies for improving the investment climate and promoting economic growth.

Speaking at the event, Bob said Akwa Ibom had recorded notable achievements under the Ease of Doing Business initiative and the State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER) programme.

According to him, the state has made progress in strengthening land administration systems, streamlining business registration processes, promoting transparency in government services and charges, enhancing digital governance, improving investment promotion mechanisms, expanding access to commercial dispute resolution, and fostering stronger collaboration between the public and private sectors.

He commended the Federal Government and PEBEC for sustaining efforts to improve Nigeria’s business environment through continuous engagement with state governments and other stakeholders.

Bob noted that the objectives of PEBEC align with the development vision of Governor Umo Eno, particularly under the administration’s ARISE Agenda.

He explained that the agenda, which focuses on Agricultural Revolution, Rural Development, Infrastructural Maintenance and Advancement, Security Management, and Educational Advancement, has continued to support investment growth, entrepreneurship, job creation, and sustainable economic development across the state.

“Your presence here underscores the Federal Government’s resolve to strengthen economic competitiveness, improve regulatory efficiency, and promote private sector-led growth,” the commissioner stated.

In her remarks, Sumaiyyah Yusuf, representing the Director-General of PEBEC, Princess Zahrah Audu, said the council remains committed to implementing reforms that simplify regulations, improve transparency, and create a more conducive environment for businesses.

She noted that since its establishment, PEBEC has championed reforms designed to make it easier for businesses to start, operate, expand, and invest in Nigeria.

The workshop featured technical sessions on key reform areas, including regulatory governance through Regulatory Impact Analysis, improving investor experience across the investment lifecycle, the government’s One-Stop Shop approach to integrated service delivery, and the harmonisation of taxes, levies, fees, and regulatory charges.

The engagement forms part of ongoing national efforts to strengthen subnational competitiveness and improve the ease of doing business across Nigeria’s states.
