Member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Unyime Idem, has sponsored three Akwa Ibom youths to China for advanced training in Investment, Financing and Capital Operations, as part of his foreign capacity-building programme aimed at developing globally competitive professionals.

The beneficiaries, who make up the 21st batch of trainees under the initiative, are Edidiong Israel Umanah, Lovelyn Donald, and Nseobong Brownson Ekarika.

Speaking during a send-forth ceremony held at his office in Abuja, Idem said the programme was designed to equip young Akwa Ibomites with the knowledge, skills and international exposure required to compete effectively in the global economy.

He explained that the all-expense-paid training scheme, which initially targeted 100 beneficiaries, has since been expanded with a new goal of sponsoring 1,000 youths for foreign training programmes.

According to the lawmaker, exposing young people to modern technology, global best practices and emerging trends in various sectors is critical to preparing them for leadership roles and career opportunities in an increasingly interconnected world.

“The world is now a global village. There is a need for our youths to be exposed to modern technology and global standards so they can compete favourably with their counterparts anywhere in the world,” he said.

Idem noted that the achievements he has recorded in public service and business were largely influenced by the training and international exposure he received over the years, adding that he hopes the beneficiaries would surpass his accomplishments.

In a letter presented to the trainees, titled “Letter of Nomination and Sponsorship to Training in China,” the lawmaker informed them that they would receive travelling allowances in addition to full sponsorship for the programme.

“As a participant in the training, you are entitled to a travelling allowance, but beyond that, your experience there will put you on a pedestal to compete favourably with your counterparts across the globe,” the letter stated.

He urged the beneficiaries to maintain exemplary conduct throughout their stay in China and serve as worthy ambassadors of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria.

“I therefore advise you to be of good conduct as ambassadors of Akwa Ibom State and the country, Nigeria. I wish you a safe stay throughout the training period and journey mercies to and from China,” he said.

The foreign training initiative forms part of the lawmaker’s youth empowerment and human capital development programmes aimed at enhancing employability, entrepreneurship and leadership capacity among young people in his constituency and Akwa Ibom State.
