Aspirant for the Delta Central Senatorial seat on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mrs Onome Bernice Dema, has urged her supporters not to be discouraged by recent developments surrounding the party’s primary election, maintaining that she remains the candidate overwhelmingly chosen by delegates.
In a statement addressed to the people of Delta Central Senatorial District on Sunday, Dema said no amount of propaganda would diminish the mandate she believes was freely given to her during the primaries.
According to her, extensive consultations were held with both state and national leaders of the NDC before she joined the party, during which she received assurances of support as a leading aspirant.
She claimed that the level of support she enjoyed during the primaries reflected those assurances, citing what she described as overwhelming victories in Ughelli South, Okpe, and Sapele Local Government Areas.

Dema also alleged irregularities in some parts of the exercise, stating that her name was omitted from the result sheet in Ughelli North Local Government Area, while the election in Ethiope East was cancelled despite her alleged lead in the area.
“ The fact remains that I am still the candidate you overwhelmingly voted for, and no amount of propaganda should make anyone believe that I have abandoned the mandate you freely gave me,” she said.
The aspirant expressed appreciation to her supporters across the senatorial district for their loyalty and confidence, describing their commitment as a source of motivation.
She, however, urged her supporters to remain calm and optimistic while awaiting the conclusion of the party’s processes.
The statement comes amid uncertainty over the outcome of the NDC senatorial primaries, following the party’s announcement that the official results remain under the consideration of its National Executive Council (NEC) and have not yet been formally released.

Dema reiterated her commitment to the people of Delta Central and expressed confidence as the party moves toward preparations for the general elections.
“We remain focused and optimistic as we look ahead to the general elections,” she stated.
