Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the promotion of 17,952 junior police officers across the Nigeria Police Force as part of efforts to improve personnel welfare, boost morale and reward outstanding service.
The promotion exercise affects officers serving in commands and formations across the country and covers multiple ranks within the junior cadre.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, the exercise includes the promotion of 165 Sergeants to the rank of Inspector, 73 Corporals to Sergeant, and 17,714 Constables to Corporal.
The police leadership described the exercise as part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening professionalism, career progression and institutional efficiency within the Force.

The Inspector-General noted that timely promotion remains a critical aspect of human resource management and serves as an important incentive for officers to remain committed to their constitutional duties.
He said the elevation of deserving personnel reflects the commitment of the current police administration to merit-based advancement, professional development and organisational growth.
“The advancement of deserving personnel reflects the commitment of the current Police leadership to merit, career progression, and institutional development,” the statement said.
The IGP congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to regard their elevation as a call to greater responsibility and service.
He charged them to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force by demonstrating professionalism, discipline and dedication in the discharge of their duties.

The promoted officers were also encouraged to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, respect for human rights and adherence to the rule of law.
The Force reiterated its commitment to rewarding hard work, promoting excellence and strengthening institutional capacity in line with global best practices in policing.
The promotion exercise is one of the largest recent advancements involving junior police personnel and is expected to further boost morale within the Force as it continues efforts to improve service delivery and internal welfare.
