The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has approved the outcomes of the party’s recently conducted primary elections for various elective positions ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The decisions were part of resolutions reached at the party’s 101st NEC meeting, where members also approved the extension of the tenure of the National Working Committee (NWC) and constituted caretaker committees across party structures nationwide.
According to the resolutions released after the meeting, NEC ratified the results of the party’s primaries for State Houses of Assembly, the National Assembly, governorship and presidential elections.
However, the approval excluded contests where appeals were still pending as of May 29, 2026, as well as primaries yet to be concluded.

The committee stated that all unresolved appeals would be handled through the party’s established mechanisms before final ratification.
In another major decision, NEC approved a 12-month extension of the tenure of the party’s National Working Committee from the expiration of its current mandate.
The extension, according to party leaders, is aimed at ensuring stability within the party structure as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
The committee also approved the constitution of caretaker committees at the zonal, state, local government and ward levels across the country.
The caretaker committees will serve for a period of 12 months and are expected to oversee party administration and strengthen grassroots mobilisation ahead of the polls.
Meanwhile, the NEC expressed concern over the continued detention of former Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasiru El-Rufai, describing him as a “prisoner of conscience.”

The party called for his immediate release, maintaining that democratic principles and the rule of law should be upheld in addressing political and legal disputes.
The resolutions underscore the ADC’s efforts to consolidate its internal structures and position itself for the 2027 general elections amid an increasingly competitive political landscape.
