The brother of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Blessing Fubara has officially declared his intention to contest the Rivers State governorship election under the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), promising to serve only one term if elected.
Speaking ahead of the party’s primary election, the governorship aspirant described himself as a “ready, competent and energetic” candidate committed to restoring peace, stability and economic prosperity in Rivers State.

According to him, the state has experienced political and economic setbacks in recent times.
“We have lost opportunities. We have lost investments. We have lost our dignity as a people. We have lost our pride as Rivers people,” he said.
Blessing Fubara called for what he described as a collective uprising across political and ethnic divides to reclaim the state’s lost glory.
“Today, we see a Rivers State that is distressed. Today, we see a Rivers State that is shortchanged. Today, we see a Rivers State that seems almost like a conquered state. No, we are not a conquered people,” he stated.
The governorship hopeful also pledged to uphold the state’s zoning arrangement, insisting that the Rivers South-East Senatorial District should complete its eight-year tenure.
“We have vowed to you to keep the peaceful existence of the political rotation of Rivers State according to our founding fathers by our districts,” he said.
He added that he was committed to serving only a single four-year term aimed at restoring prosperity and development in the state.
“I have vowed to do just a four-year one-term tenure to bring the expected prosperity and development in Rivers State,” he said.
The aspirant argued that political strength should not be measured solely by financial resources, maintaining that widespread public support remained his greatest advantage.
“We might not challenge the financial capacity that they have, but we know that we have the people, so we are richer in capacity,” he stated.
He further urged supporters across the 23 local government areas of the state to mobilise massively ahead of the party’s primary election.

Blessing Fubara also appealed to what he described as his “elder brother” in the race to step down in support of what he called “the uprising of the people” to restore peace, prosperity and stability in Rivers State.
He warned that altering the existing senatorial rotation arrangement for leadership in the state could set a dangerous precedent, while promising to strengthen governance and restore peace if elected governor.
