Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has commissioned the Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal in Umuahia, a multimodal transport facility designed to accommodate more than 340 buses at a time.

The terminal, named after the 2023 INEC Abia governorship election Returning Officer, Prof. Nnenna Nnennaya-Oti, is part of the state’s plan to modernise public transportation and expand its electric mobility programme.

According to the state government, 20 electric buses are already in operation under the new transport scheme, with additional units expected to be deployed in the coming weeks. The facility is also equipped with independent power and water systems to support continuous operations.

Speaking at the commissioning, Otti said the project reflects a shift toward large-scale infrastructure development in the state and reiterated the administration’s focus on what he described as more ambitious development targets.

He said naming the terminal after Prof. Oti was a recognition of her role in the 2023 governorship election and a broader tribute to electoral officials, security personnel, party agents, and citizens involved in the process.

The governor commended Planet Projects Limited for delivering the project, as well as the Commissioner for Transport, Dr Chimezie Ukaegbu, and the Senior Special Assistant on Transport, Dr Obioma Nwaogbe, for their roles in its execution.

Otti also urged residents to take responsibility for maintaining the facility and called for regular tax payments, saying sustained development depends on collective financial support.
