A man identified as Salifu Olije Mustapha has been arraigned before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kubwa, Abuja, over allegations of impersonating officers of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Air Force.

The EFCC, in a four-count charge filed before Justice A.I. Akobi on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, accused the defendant of impersonation, misrepresentation, and aiding fraudulent activities within the jurisdiction of the court.

In one of the charges, the Commission alleged that in March 2026, Mustapha posed as a Nigerian Air Force officer and assisted two accomplices—identified as Abubakar (at large) and Haruna Mamuda (under investigation)—in operating under the guise of EFCC operatives.

He was also accused of conveying the suspects in a Toyota Corolla reportedly bearing registration number KTU399GT, while they were dressed in fake EFCC uniforms, to carry out fraudulent activities around Sheriff Plaza, Wuse II, Abuja.

The EFCC further alleged that the defendant falsely presented himself as a public officer, using the assumed identity to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.

Mustapha reportedly pleaded guilty to all four counts when the charges were read to him in court.

Following his plea, prosecution counsel R.U. Adaga urged the court to convict and sentence the defendant accordingly.

Justice Akobi subsequently adjourned the matter to June 1, 2026, for sentencing.

According to the EFCC, the defendant was arrested following intelligence reports linking him and his associates to the impersonation of anti-graft operatives.

He was allegedly caught wearing a fake EFCC uniform and harassing motorists while extorting money from them in Abuja.
