Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have neutralised several suspected Lakurawa terrorists and recovered weapons as well as rustled livestock during separate operations in Sokoto and Katsina states.

The Nigerian Army disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba.

According to the statement, troops in Sokoto State responded to a distress call over an alleged attempt by members of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group to attack and set ablaze a Nigerian Immigration Service facility at Ruwa Wiri Village in Tangaza Local Government Area.

The troops were said to have engaged the attackers in a gun battle, during which two suspected terrorists were killed, while others escaped following what the Army described as overwhelming firepower.

The military said a follow-up operation in the area led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, ammunition and a motorcycle believed to belong to the fleeing terrorists.

In a separate operation in Katsina State, troops on fighting patrol in Jibia Local Government Area reportedly encountered armed bandits moving with rustled livestock at Danya Bakwai Settlement.

The troops engaged the suspects, forcing them to abandon 62 stolen animals before fleeing the scene.

The recovered livestock were later handed over to their owners at the palace of the Daddara District Head in Jibia Local Government Area.

The Army reaffirmed the commitment of Operation FANSAN YAMMA to combating terrorism and banditry in the North-West region and urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to security agencies.
