Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, Femi Gbajabiamila, has revealed that he nearly lost his position during the political crisis that engulfed the Lagos State House of Assembly over the impeachment saga involving Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.
Gbajabiamila disclosed in a video circulating on social media, where he recounted how President Bola Ahmed Tinubu summoned him to Abuja at the height of the crisis and confronted him over allegations linking actor-turned-lawmaker Desmond Elliot to efforts aimed at destabilising the Lagos Assembly.
According to Gbajabiamila, the President questioned him over intelligence reports suggesting Elliot, who represents Surulere Constituency I in the Assembly, was among those involved in the political turmoil.

“I almost lost my job as Chief of Staff last year because of Desmond Elliot,” Gbajabiamila said, adding that he immediately defended the lawmaker and denied knowledge of any involvement in the crisis.
He further disclosed that he later contacted Elliot and warned him to distance himself from the controversy if he was involved in any way.
Gbajabiamila also revealed that the Director-General of the Department of State Services subsequently contacted him, alleging that his name was being mentioned in connection with the Assembly crisis because of his relationship with Elliot.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives said he instructed Elliot to publicly deny involvement in the saga, but claimed that no such clarification was made.

The political crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly began in January 2025 when lawmakers impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa over allegations of misconduct and financial impropriety while he was outside the country.
