Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
Makinde made the declaration during a political rally held at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, amid ongoing political realignments involving factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Addressing supporters at the rally, the governor announced his presidential ambition, saying he was ready to contest for the nation’s highest office.
Earlier, Makinde led the Taminu Turaki-led faction of the PDP in Oyo State to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the APM as part of a strategic alliance ahead of the polls.
The agreement was signed by Makinde and the National Chairman of the APM, Yusuf Dantalle, on behalf of both parties.
Under the arrangement, candidates of the PDP faction contesting governorship, National Assembly and State House of Assembly seats in the 2027 elections are expected to run on the APM platform instead of the PDP.
