The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has defended the defection of federal lawmaker Okey Chinda from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the party’s constitution allows individuals to join the APC at any time.

The State Publicity Secretary of the APC, Chibuike Ikenga, stated this during an appearance on a programme, Morning Crossfire, while responding to questions surrounding Chinda’s entry into the party.

According to Ikenga, aspirants who join the APC shortly before elections are permitted to contest for positions, provided they obtain a waiver from the party leadership.

He disclosed that the necessary waiver had already been granted to Chinda.

Ikenga also advised aspirants dissatisfied with the outcome of the party’s screening process to utilise the internal appeal mechanism provided by the APC rather than taking grievances to the media.

He warned against the circulation of misinformation regarding party activities and screening outcomes.

The APC spokesperson stressed that all official publications issued by the party, including screening results, remain the authentic position of the party on ongoing developments.
