Tragedy has struck the political landscape in Jigawa State following the killing of an ADC governorship aspirant, Alhaji Hon. Abba Anas Adamu Laushi, by kidnappers who had abducted him along the Kaduna-Abuja highway.

The former member of the House of Representatives was reportedly kidnapped last Friday while travelling to purchase his nomination form ahead of the 2027 governorship race under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

Sources close to the family disclosed that Hon. Abba Anas was abducted alongside one Ali Tukur Gantsa during the attack. The kidnappers subsequently demanded a ransom of ₦75 million for their release.

Although Ali Tukur Gantsa reportedly managed to escape from captivity, the abductors allegedly killed Hon. Abba Anas despite receiving the ransom payment.

His remains are currently being transported to Kano for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Until his death, Hon. Abba Anas was a prominent political figure in Jigawa State and had represented the Birniwa, Guri and Kirikasamma Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives between 2007 and 2011.

Family members and political associates described his death as painful and devastating, noting that he was attacked while pursuing his political ambition and aspirations to serve the people of Jigawa State.

“It is heartbreaking that he met his end at the hands of these heartless criminals while on a journey to fulfil his political aspirations,” a family source said.

They also prayed for the repose of his soul, saying, “We pray that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest and mercy.”
