The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced plans to allow candidates to use their personal computers for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) beginning from 2027.

JAMB Registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, disclosed this on Monday during the 2026 Policy Meeting on Admissions into Tertiary Institutions held in Abuja.

According to Oloyede, the new initiative, tagged “Bring Your Own Device” (BYOD), is aimed at making the examination process more convenient, affordable and efficient for candidates.

He explained that candidates would be permitted to use their personal laptops for the examination, while JAMB would deploy security measures, including the insertion of flash drives, to prevent examination malpractice and protect the integrity of the test.

The registrar noted that the innovation would also address recurring complaints from candidates whose computers shut down during examinations at Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres.

He added that the board was working on additional technological improvements expected to enhance the conduct of UTME by 2027.

Speaking further, Oloyede revealed that Jesudunsin Owoeye from Ekiti State emerged as the highest scorer in the 2026 UTME with 372 out of a possible 400 marks amongst others.
