The Governing Council of Federal University of Technology, Owerri has appointed Professor I.N.S. Dozie as its 9th substantive Vice-Chancellor, marking a new chapter in the institution’s leadership.

The appointment was announced following the conclusion of a rigorous selection process conducted by the university’s 13th Governing Council, chaired by Jack Tilley-Gyado. The council described the process as thorough and competitive, aimed at identifying a candidate with both academic distinction and administrative competence.

Professor Dozie formally received his letter of appointment from the council chairman in the presence of the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Nnenna N. Oti, whose tenure is set to conclude on June 18, 2026.

Until his new appointment, Dozie served as Vice-Chancellor of K.O. Mbadiwe University (KOMU), Ideato, Imo State. His career spans decades of academic and institutional leadership, with significant contributions to university administration and development.

Within FUTO, Professor Dozie has held several strategic roles, including Dean of the School of Health Technology, member of the university’s 11th Governing Council, and Director of Linkages and Advancement. His familiarity with the institution is widely seen as an advantage as he assumes leadership.

Some staff in the institution said that within the academic community, his appointment comes at a critical time for Nigerian universities, as institutions navigate challenges related to funding, research output, and global competitiveness.

Professor Dozie is expected to officially assume office following the expiration of Professor Oti’s tenure, ushering in a new phase for FUTO’s academic and administrative agenda.
