Nigeria’s volleyball resurgence gathered momentum as the President of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Engineer Musa Nimrod, commended the Controller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his vital support following impressive performances by Customs teams in continental competitions.

At the African Women’s Club Championship in Egypt, the Nigeria Customs Service women’s team displayed resilience and growing maturity, finishing a commendable ninth in a highly competitive field.

Their campaign featured spirited performances against some of Africa’s top sides, highlighting their steady progress.

In the men’s championship held in Kigali, the Customs team showed grit and tactical discipline, advancing beyond the group stage into the knockout rounds. Their run to the Round of 16 underscored Nigeria’s improving standard in men’s volleyball, as they competed strongly against more established opponents.

Reflecting on both outings, Nimrod emphasised that the achievements extend beyond rankings, highlighting growth, exposure, and renewed confidence within the teams.

“We are deeply grateful to the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, for his unwavering support,” he said.

“What we saw in Egypt and Kigali was not just participation, but clear progress. Our women fought bravely to finish among the top teams, while our men proved their quality by reaching the knockout stage. These outings show that Nigerian volleyball is on the right path.”

Nimrod added that such progress would not have been possible without the institutional backing of the Customs Service, describing the partnership as a model for sports development in Nigeria.

With momentum building, attention now turns to Badagry, where Nigeria will host a major continental championship in July. Preparations are already in full swing, with the federation aiming to stage a tournament that reflects the country’s rising profile in African volleyball.

“As we prepare for the continental championship in Badagry, we are ready as a federation. Hosting comes with responsibility, and we need collective support to make it a success. This is an opportunity to showcase Nigeria not just as participants, but as leaders in African volleyball,” Nimrod added.

With encouraging performances abroad and a major hosting role ahead, Nigerian volleyball is steadily carving out a new identity driven by performance, partnership, and ambition.
