The Akwa Ibom State Police Command, in collaboration with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has successfully rescued 14 persons abducted by sea pirates along the Calabar–Oron waterways.

The victims were freed during a coordinated joint operation driven by sustained intelligence gathering and intensified surveillance across identified criminal flashpoints within the maritime corridor.

According to a press release issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, the operation was executed without any loss of life, as operatives mounted pressure on the criminal elements, leading to the safe release of the victims.

The statement noted that the rescued individuals are currently undergoing medical evaluation and necessary debriefing before being reunited with their families.

Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, commended the operatives for their professionalism and the effective synergy between the Police and EFCC, describing the success as a testament to the power of inter-agency collaboration in tackling security challenges.

He assured that efforts are ongoing to track down and apprehend those responsible for the abduction, stressing that the perpetrators will be brought to justice.

The CP also reassured residents and maritime operators of increased security presence along the waterways and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.

He warned criminal elements to desist from illegal activities or face decisive action, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to the protection of lives and property across the state.
