Nollywood actress-turned-politician, Funke Adesiyan, has withdrawn from the race for the House of Representatives seat representing Ibadan South-East/North-East Federal Constituency in Oyo State.
Adesiyan announced her decision in a letter dated April 24, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ibadan South-East Local Government Area.
According to the actress, her withdrawal followed what she described as “certain reflections and high-level consultations,” emphasising that the decision was both personal and strategic. She noted that her action was guided by “a clear assessment of the broader political landscape” and her commitment to long-term credibility and purposeful service.
Adesiyan, who had earlier declared her intention to contest the federal legislative seat, expressed appreciation to her supporters and political stakeholders for their encouragement and confidence in her aspiration.
“I remain fully appreciative of the confidence reposed in me and the encouragement received from supporters and stakeholders,” she stated.
She further explained that stepping down at this stage would allow her to refocus and continue contributing to societal development through alternative avenues, rather than elective office.
“At this time, I consider it more important to step back with clarity and focus, while continuing to contribute meaningfully to the progress and development of our people through other strategic avenues,” she added.
Despite her withdrawal, Adesiyan reaffirmed her commitment to the advancement of Oyo State and Nigeria, signalling that her involvement in public service and political engagement remains ongoing.
