Arsenal FC returned to the summit of the Premier League with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Newcastle United, courtesy of a brilliant early goal from Eberechi Eze.
The decisive moment came inside the opening 10 minutes at the Emirates Stadium, when Eze unleashed a stunning strike following a well-worked set-piece routine to hand the Gunners an early lead.
Despite the bright start, Mikel Arteta’s side struggled to impose themselves for much of the contest, delivering a nervy performance as Newcastle pushed for an equaliser. However, Arsenal’s defence held firm to preserve the slender advantage.
The victory marked a crucial response after recent setbacks, lifting Arsenal back to the top of the table with 73 points from 34 matches, ahead of rivals Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
Newcastle, meanwhile, endured a fourth consecutive league defeat, deepening their struggles this season and leaving them in the lower half of the table.
Chances were limited throughout the encounter, though the visitors came close late on but failed to capitalise, as Arsenal managed the closing stages with resilience.
The win, while far from convincing, keeps Arsenal firmly in the title race heading into the final stretch of the campaign, with Eze’s moment of brilliance proving the difference on a tense afternoon in north London.
