Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has announced a series of employment, education, and welfare initiatives for vulnerable children and their caregivers, as part of activities commemorating his 2026 birthday.

The governor announced on Saturday during a visit to the Divine Children’s Home in Uyo, where he celebrated with residents and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to social inclusion and compassionate governance.

As part of the intervention package, 22 caregivers were offered immediate employment in the state civil service. In addition, 15 children who recently completed vocational training programmes will receive empowerment support to help them transition into self-reliance.

Governor Eno also approved automatic employment opportunities for qualified residents of the home who hold Registered Nursing credentials and National Certificate in Education (NCE) qualifications.

In a notable highlight, the governor granted an international postgraduate scholarship to a young law graduate raised in the facility, signalling what officials described as a targeted investment in human capital development among disadvantaged groups.

Performing groups at the event were also given financial support in recognition of their talents and contributions to the celebration.

Governor Eno encouraged the children to remain hopeful and determined, assuring them of sustained government backing. He emphasised that the initiatives form part of a broader policy framework aimed at restoring dignity and expanding opportunities for vulnerable populations across the state.

Further details of the intervention programmes are expected to be released by the state government in the coming days.
