Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (rtd), has praised Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, for what he described as purposeful leadership and consistent support for security operations in the state.

The Minister gave the commendation on Wednesday during a courtesy visit to Government House, Uyo, where he also delivered a convocation lecture at the combined ceremony of Akwa Ibom State University.

Speaking after touring parts of the state, General Musa said he was impressed by the visible infrastructure development, particularly the quality of road networks and the general ambience of governance across Akwa Ibom.

He noted that he had followed the state’s development programmes, including the ARISE Agenda broadcasts, describing them as evidence of deliberate planning and commitment to public service.

“My prayer is that others will also watch and see what has been done, and to know that these things are possible, not rocket science,” the Defence Minister said.

General Musa further stated that effective governance plays a critical role in national security, stressing the importance of combining military operations with non-kinetic approaches such as development, inclusion, and social welfare.

According to him, “security is a collective responsibility,” urging citizens to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities to enhance safety across the country.

He also commended the state government for its support to the 2 Brigade of the Nigerian Army and other security formations, noting that such collaboration strengthens operational effectiveness.

In his response, Governor Umo Eno expressed appreciation to the Defence Minister for honouring the invitation to deliver the convocation lecture and for his assessment of governance in the state.

Governor Eno congratulated General Musa on his appointment as Defence Minister, describing him as one of the country’s most respected military officers.

He also extended condolences over recent losses of military personnel in parts of the country and called for increased support for security agencies operating within Akwa Ibom.

The Governor attributed the prevailing peace in the state to sustained collaboration between the government, security agencies, and local communities, assuring continued support to maintain stability and enhance security operations.

Present at the meeting were the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakeneyi; the Head of Civil Service, Mrs Elsie Peters; the Executive Assistant and Chief Delivery Advisor, Mr Aniefiok Johnson; and members of the State Executive Council.

The Defence Minister was accompanied by senior military officers, including retired and serving generals and other personnel from the Nigerian Army.
