At least 17 people have been injured, including five in critical condition, following a head-on collision between two local trains north of Copenhagen, emergency services have confirmed.
The incident occurred early Thursday morning on a railway line connecting the towns of Hillerod and Kagerup. Authorities said the crash happened shortly before 6:30 a.m., with approximately 38 passengers believed to have been on board both trains at the time.

Emergency responders described extensive damage at the scene, with both trains sustaining significant impact to their front sections. Images from the location showed the trains facing each other in a wooded area, with debris and shattered glass scattered across the site. Rescue officials also reported chaotic conditions inside the carriages immediately after the collision.
According to fire and rescue officials, the force of the impact caused widespread structural damage to the trains, contributing to the number of injuries recorded. All passengers were successfully evacuated, and authorities confirmed that no individuals were trapped inside the wreckage.
The injured were transported from the scene using ambulances and emergency helicopters to nearby medical facilities for treatment. Emergency services deployed significant resources to manage the situation and provide immediate medical assistance.

Police authorities stated that the cause of the collision has not yet been determined, noting that a full-scale investigation will be conducted to establish the circumstances leading to the crash. Officials indicated that further details would be released as inquiries progress.
