The Deputy Governor of Yobe State, Idi Barde Gubana, has commissioned 50 mosques and facilitated the marriages of 10 female orphans under his care through the Gorbo Foundation in Fune Local Government Area.

Speaking at the commissioning of one of the mosques at the palace of the Emir of Fune, Gubana said the initiative was designed to strengthen spiritual life and give back to society, particularly to vulnerable groups.
According to him, the foundation currently caters to more than 1,400 orphans, providing them with access to education from primary through secondary levels, with several beneficiaries now pursuing tertiary education. “Some of them have graduated and found partners, which is why we supported their marriages,” he said, noting that the intervention extends beyond education to ensuring stability in their adult lives.
Gubana explained that he personally oversaw the upbringing and education of the orphans before facilitating their marriages, describing the effort as an act of charity and gratitude to God for his rise from humble beginnings to public office.
He urged affluent individuals, political leaders to invest in humanitarian causes, particularly by supporting orphans, building places of worship, and funding initiatives that improve both the spiritual and socio-economic well-being of communities. Also speaking at the event, the Chief Imam of the National Mosque Abuja, Professor Ibrahim Maqari, commended the deputy governor’s philanthropic gesture but advised that additional support be provided to the newly married couples.

He specifically called for the provision of startup capital to enable the beneficiaries establish small businesses and sustain their households. The Gorbo Foundation, founded by Gubana, focuses on the education and empowerment of orphans, women, and other vulnerable groups across Yobe State, contributing to social development efforts in the region.
