Former Lawmaker, Senator Dino Melaye has insisted that the national convention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will go ahead as scheduled on Tuesday at the Rainbow Event Centre in Abuja, despite alleged last-minute pressure to stop the event.

Speaking to journalists at the venue, Melaye said the party had a valid agreement with the facility and had fully paid for its use, stressing that no individual or institution could halt the planned convention.

He alleged that there were attempts to frustrate the event through external pressure on the venue management, describing the situation as an act of political intimidation.

This development follows a statement by ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, who claimed that the venue operators were allegedly threatened with licence revocation if they proceeded to host the party’s convention.

Melaye condemned the alleged move, describing it as undemocratic, and vowed that the party would not yield to what he termed “creeping tyranny.”

He maintained that the ADC remains committed to holding a peaceful and lawful convention as scheduled.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official reaction from the Federal Capital Territory Administration or the Federal Capital Development Authority regarding the allegations.
