The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Olakunle Nafiu, has called on Planning, Research and Statistics (PRS) Schedule Officers to uphold high standards of data integrity, while strengthening monitoring and evaluation systems across the Scheme.

He made this appeal during the 2026 edition of the NYSC PRS Schedule Officers’ Workshop held in Abuja.

Nafiu emphasised that reliable and timely data are essential for effective policymaking and informed decision-making within the organisation.

The DG who was represented by the Director of Reforms Coordination and Service Improvement, Chinwendu Chukwu, described the workshop as a crucial platform for reflection, knowledge exchange, and strategic realignment aimed at improving service delivery.

According to him, PRS officers play a pivotal role in the Scheme and must be adequately equipped with the necessary skills and expertise. He added that the NYSC management remains committed to continuous capacity building through training programmes and incentives to enhance performance.

He encouraged participants to maximise the opportunity provided by the workshop to refine their competencies and adopt innovative approaches to their responsibilities.

“As custodians of the Scheme’s records and archival materials at state secretariats, you must demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility in safeguarding these assets,” he stated.

Nafiu further described PRS officers as the intellectual backbone of the NYSC, urging them to actively engage in research that will contribute to the advancement of the Scheme’s operations and ideals.

Reaffirming management’s commitment, he noted that efforts would continue to focus on strengthening research initiatives, promoting inter-departmental collaboration, and fully integrating PRS functions into the NYSC’s broader strategic framework.

“We will sustain an enabling environment that encourages efficiency and peak performance. PRS officers must remain committed, innovative, and proactive in carrying out their duties,” he added.

In his remarks, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Nura Umar, said the workshop aligns with the Director-General’s vision of building a resilient workforce.

He highlighted the theme of the workshop “Enhancing Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting Skills for PRS Officers for Improved Service Delivery” as a reflection of the need for effective tracking and assessment of NYSC programmes.

Umar urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to improve their professional output, noting that subject-matter experts would facilitate sessions aimed at boosting their capacity.

The workshop attracted PRS Schedule Officers from all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.
