Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education has warned private primary and secondary schools against resuming academic activities ahead of the officially approved date for the third term of the 2025/2026 academic session.
In a press release issued on April 11, 2026, the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Professor Ubong Essien Umoh, said the Ministry had received reports that some private schools were planning to reopen on Monday, April 13, in violation of the state’s harmonised school calendar.
The Ministry, however, reiterated that the approved resumption date for all public and private primary and secondary schools in the state remains Monday, April 20, 2026.
It directed all school proprietors and administrators to strictly comply with the official calendar, warning that any institution found operating before the stipulated date would be considered to be in breach of state regulations and would face appropriate disciplinary action.
The Ministry also advised parents and guardians to ensure their children and wards remain at home until the official resumption date.
The statement, signed by Mr. Abasiama Inyang, Director covering duties for the Permanent Secretary, emphasized the government’s commitment to maintaining order and uniformity in the state’s education system.
