The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s determination to overcome security threats across the country, assuring that ongoing operations will be intensified to sustain recent gains.
General Shaibu gave the assurance on Friday during an operational visit to Yobe State, where he undertook a battlefield assessment and engaged troops under Operation HADIN KAI.
The Army Chief, who was received at the Muhammadu Buhari International Cargo Airport, Damaturu, by Governor Mai Mala Buni, said the visit was aimed at boosting troop morale and evaluating the evolving security situation in the North East.
He acknowledged recent operational challenges, including attacks on military formations, but maintained that the Nigerian Army remains resolute and undeterred in the discharge of its constitutional responsibilities.
According to him, the Army is continuously reviewing and adjusting its operational strategies to effectively counter emerging threats and maintain the momentum of ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.
“Despite the dynamic nature of security challenges, the Nigerian Army will continue to stand firm and decisively confront all forms of terrorism,” he said, while calling for sustained support from state governments and citizens.
The COAS commended the government and people of Yobe State for their cooperation with security agencies, describing such support as critical to achieving lasting peace in the region.
During his visit to the Headquarters, Sector 2 Joint Task Force North East, the Governor of Borno State, Prof. Babagana Zulum, accompanied by Senator Ali Ndume, paid a condolence visit to the Army leadership over the recent loss of personnel in encounters with insurgents.
Governor Zulum pledged to strengthen collaboration with security agencies and evolve additional strategies to address the changing security landscape.
General Shaibu also addressed troops, urging them to remain committed, resilient, and aggressive in the fight against terrorism, in honour of their fallen colleagues and in pursuit of national security.
In his remarks, the Deputy Governor of Yobe State, who represented Governor Buni, commended the Nigerian Army for its sacrifices and pivotal role in restoring peace to troubled areas, while offering prayers for personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
