Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has joined residents of the state in mourning the late Senator Barinada Mpigi, describing him as a fulfilled leader whose legacy will endure.
Governor Fubara made the remarks on Friday night during a service of songs held in honour of the deceased at the Missionary Anglican Church, Koroma, in Tai Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, the governor paid glowing tribute to the late lawmaker, who until his death represented Rivers South-East Senatorial District in the National Assembly.
Fubara described the late senator as a courageous and impactful leader, noting that his contributions to the development of his constituency and the state would not be forgotten.
“He lived a great life. He was a fighter whose time had come and gone. We will remember him for the great works he did,” the governor said.
Reflecting on the reality of human mortality, Fubara noted that death remains inevitable and beyond human control, urging acceptance of the will of God in all circumstances.
He encouraged the bereaved family to remain strong in the face of the loss, emphasizing that only God can provide true comfort and fill the void left by the departed.
“Our gathering here is not enough to console you. It is only God that can console you and fill that vacuum,” he added.
The governor also revealed that he had earlier sent a condolence message to the family and paid them a visit shortly after the news of the senator’s passing.
Fubara commended members of the National Assembly and the people of Koroma community for turning out in large numbers to honour the late senator, and prayed for their safe return to their respective destinations.
The late Senator Mpigi is remembered for his service and contributions to legislative governance and community development in Rivers State.
