AKWA IBOM EXCO APPROVES 11 EXECUTIVE BILLS

The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council (EXCO) has approved 11 Executive Bills aimed at strengthening key sectors of the state’s economy and governance framework.

The approvals were made during the EXCO meeting held on Tuesday at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo, presided over by Governor Pastor Umo Eno.

The meeting, which had in attendance top government officials including the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, and members of the State Executive Council, focused on reviewing draft legislations for onward transmission to the State House of Assembly.

Governor Eno said the special session – his administration’s second within one week was convened to fast-track legislative processes in line with the administration’s ARISE Agenda.

Among the key bills approved are the Akwa Ibom State Hotels and Tourism Development Commission Bill, Ibom Broadcasting Corporation Bill, Akwa Ibom Geographic Information Service Bill, and the Akwa Ibom State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance Systems Agency Bill.

Others include the Lottery Regulatory Agency Bill, Senior Citizens Centre Management Agency Bill, Dakadda Skills Acquisition Centre Bill, Office of the Public Defender Bill, and the Hospitals Management Board (Amendment) Bill, among others.

The Council directed that all approved bills be transmitted to the State House of Assembly for legislative consideration and passage.

According to the government, the proposed laws are designed to enhance service delivery, strengthen institutional frameworks, and drive socio-economic development across the state.

The bills are also expected to boost tourism, improve healthcare and emergency response systems, promote skills acquisition and job creation, and expand social protection initiatives, particularly for senior citizens.

Additionally, they seek to improve regulatory oversight in sectors such as gaming and water resource management, while promoting transparency and good governance.
