Bayern Munich manager, Vincent Kompany has warned his players to expect a formidable challenge when they face Real Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final at the Santiago Bernabéu on Tuesday.

Despite recent inconsistencies in domestic competition, Kompany insists the Spanish giants remain one of the most dangerous teams in Europe, capable of delivering their best performance on the biggest stage.

Real Madrid head into the highly anticipated encounter after suffering a 2–1 defeat to Mallorca in La Liga on Saturday. The loss marked their third setback in nine matches across all competitions, raising questions about the team’s recent form.

However, Kompany believes those results do little to diminish the threat posed by the 15-time European champions.

“Real Madrid are still one of the best teams in Europe,” Kompany said ahead of the clash. “When you play at the Bernabéu in the Champions League, you must expect the highest level from them.”

A major reason for Madrid’s continued threat is the form of Kylian Mbappé. The French forward has been outstanding in this season’s Champions League, leading the scoring chart with 13 goals. His attacking presence remains a key weapon for Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

Madrid have also received significant contributions from other stars during the knockout stages. Midfielder Federico Valverde delivered a remarkable hat-trick in the first leg of their round-of-16 tie against Manchester City, while Brazilian winger Vinícius Júnior scored twice in the return leg to help secure progression.

Bayern Munich arrive in Spain with strong momentum. The German champions have lost only once in their last 25 matches across all competitions, underlining their impressive consistency in recent months.

Much of Bayern’s attacking success has been driven by striker Harry Kane. The England captain has scored 10 goals in this season’s Champions League, placing him second on the tournament’s scoring list alongside Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon.

However, Kane’s availability for the quarter-final opener remains uncertain after he picked up a minor injury. The striker will need to prove his fitness before kickoff if he is to lead Bayern’s attack against Madrid.

With both sides boasting world-class talent and rich European pedigree, Tuesday’s encounter is expected to deliver another memorable chapter in Champions League history. The result at the Bernabéu could play a decisive role in determining which of Europe’s heavyweights takes a step closer to the semi-finals.
