President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Saturday inaugurated a N73 billion office complex for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Federal Operations Unit, Zone A, located in Iperu, Ogun State.

The newly constructed facility comprises administrative office buildings and a training college designed to enhance operational efficiency and capacity development within the Service.

Declaring the complex open, President Tinubu commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, for initiating what he described as a befitting and forward-looking project.

“I hereby declare this building open, to the glory of God,” the President stated during the ceremony.

In his remarks, Adeniyi explained that the relocation from the congested Ikeja facility in Lagos became necessary due to the expanding responsibilities of the Service and the need to improve working conditions for officers.

“We needed a bigger and more conducive environment to accommodate our expanding operations. The new site offers sufficient space to support current and future activities,” he said.

He noted that the new complex would strengthen the Customs Service’s capacity in revenue generation, trade facilitation, and enforcement, while also supporting emerging trade infrastructure, including export processing and cargo operations linked to nearby aviation facilities.

Adeniyi disclosed that the project, initially estimated at N73 billion, is still ongoing, with about 45 per cent completed. He added that the Service is seeking presidential approval to review the project cost in line with current economic realities to ensure its timely completion.

The Comptroller-General also commended the Ogun State Government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, for providing over 50 hectares of land for the project, as well as supporting the development with critical infrastructure.

He acknowledged the contributions of his predecessor in securing the land and initiating the project, noting that the facility’s location—near an aviation village and an existing Customs training college—adds to its strategic importance.

On operational readiness, Adeniyi revealed that Customs personnel have already been deployed to key areas, including airport terminals and cargo sections.

“We are already on ground. The facilities provided meet our operational requirements, and we are confident of seamless Customs operations as cargo and international flight activities commence,” he said.

The new complex is expected to significantly boost the operational capacity of the Nigeria Customs Service in the South-West region and improve overall service delivery.
