The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said millions of Nigerians continue to place their trust in the party despite recent political challenges, revealing that over 4.2 million members have been captured in its ongoing digital registration exercise.

Speaking during a press briefing on Wednesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Ini Ememobong, disclosed that as of March 31, 2026, a total of 4,264,675 members had been registered across wards nationwide.

He described the exercise as “herculean,” noting that it was carried out within a tight timeframe, with the support of volunteers and party agents deployed across rural and urban communities.

According to Ememobong, the figures demonstrate that while some politicians may be defecting, the electorate remains loyal to the PDP.

“This digital membership registration has shown clearly that the politicians are defecting, not the electorate,” he said.

A breakdown of the data shows that male members accounted for 2,336,069 registrations, while female members stood at 1,928,606. In terms of age distribution, 40.3 per cent of registrants are between 18 and 40 years, 30.7 per cent fall within 41 to 60 years, while 28.9 per cent are aged 61 and above.

Geographically, the South West recorded the highest number of registrants with 953,954 members, followed by the South South with 917,652, and the North Central with 757,502. The North West recorded 754,935 members, the North East 646,305, while the South East had 234,327.

At the state level, Kaduna led with 408,915 registrations, followed by Edo with 378,033 and Oyo with 368,204. Ogun and Kano recorded 316,311 and 275,786 members respectively.

The PDP spokesperson said the turnout reflects public dissatisfaction with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the government of poor leadership and rising insecurity.

He also announced that the party has extended the registration deadline to April 30, 2026, to accommodate more members, stressing that the process is free and conducted via its official platform.

Ememobong reaffirmed the PDP’s position as a strong opposition party, urging Nigerians to disregard individuals he described as proxies attempting to undermine the party from within.

He assured supporters that the party leadership would continue efforts to strengthen internal structures and safeguard its political future ahead of the 2027 general elections.
