The National President of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Engr. Bello Lawal, has reiterated the association’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to enhance security across the country.
Lawal made the pledge during a courtesy visit to the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
During the visit, the ALGON President congratulated the IGP on his recent appointment, commended his leadership. He also reaffirmed ALGON’s willingness to support police operations across local government areas, particularly in advancing community-based and grassroots policing initiatives.
Lawal noted that closer cooperation between local government authorities and the police would significantly improve public safety, help address security challenges at the community level.
He also appealed for sustained support from the Nigeria Police Force for ALGON’s initiatives, while highlighting the association’s ongoing collaboration with both federal and state governments in implementing policies and development programmes nationwide.
The ALGON President further urged the IGP to remain steadfast in his responsibilities, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the safety of Nigerians and the protection of their property across the country.
In his response, IGP Olatunji Disu expressed appreciation for ALGON’s continued support and acknowledged the association’s role in strengthening policing efforts in the past.
He commended the leadership of ALGON for its commitment to improving security at the grassroots level, while also drawing attention to the operational challenges faced by police personnel who often work under limited resources.
The IGP assured the delegation of his determination to build on existing progress within the Force and called on members of the public to cooperate with and respect police officers while on duty.
“Our work becomes easier when citizens cooperate with the police by providing accurate information and showing respect to officers carrying out their duties,” he said.
Disu also urged police personnel to maintain professionalism and civility in their interactions with the public.
He reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force and ensuring that officers are adequately equipped to effectively serve the nation.
