The Nigerian Army has launched a search-and-rescue operation following the escape of a kidnap victim from captivity in Abia State.

The victim, 40-year-old Bright Ochinachi, was reportedly abducted on March 15, 2026, by unidentified gunmen along the busy Umuahia–Aba road, where his vehicle was also stolen.

According to the Army, Ochinachi escaped from his captors and subsequently reported the incident to troops stationed in the Isiala Ngwa area.

Acting swiftly on the report, soldiers, in collaboration with the victim, initiated a coordinated operation in the Uratta and Umuchima forest areas in a bid to track down the kidnappers and recover the stolen vehicle.

Military authorities say the operation is ongoing, with intensified efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and prevent further attacks along the corridor, which has experienced intermittent security challenges.

Residents have been urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to security agencies promptly.

The development highlights ongoing security concerns in parts of the South-East, even as the Nigerian Army continues to intensify operations to protect lives and property in the region.
