A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that it intends to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
The faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, made the clarification on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief, insisting that the PDP remains committed to fielding its own presidential candidate.
“We are not supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the 2027 general election. We will do everything possible to present our own candidate,” Mohammed said.
He urged Nigerians to disregard speculations linking the party to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), describing such claims as propaganda aimed at discrediting both the PDP and the FCT Minister.
“All these rumours about us being an appendage of the APC will fade with time. They are meant to undermine the PDP and the person of Nyesom Wike,” he added.
Mohammed, however, acknowledged Wike’s influence in Nigeria’s political landscape, describing him as a valuable asset to any political party.
“No political party would not want someone like Nyesom Wike in its fold,” he said.
The clarification comes amid Wike’s recent public statements expressing support for President Tinubu’s second-term ambition. Earlier in March 2026, the FCT Minister stated during a media chat in Abuja that he would back Tinubu’s re-election, even across party lines.
