The Plateau State Government has alerted residents of Kanam Local Government Area about a military operation targeting bandits in the Garga axis, following a security incident on Friday, March 13, 2026.
A combined patrol team of military personnel and local vigilantes was ambushed near Wanka while conducting routine patrols across Garga, Kyaram, Gyambau, and neighbouring communities. The attack resulted in the deaths of some security operatives and caused chaos in Kyaram community.
The state government condemned the attack, commended the bravery of the security personnel and vigilantes who confronted the bandits. Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang’s administration assured residents that decisive steps are being taken to restore and strengthen security in the area.
Residents have been advised to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding while cooperating with security agencies by providing credible information to aid ongoing operations. Traditional rulers, community leaders, and other stakeholders in Kanam are actively engaged to support peace and security efforts.
The government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives, protecting communities, and preserving peace across Plateau State.
