Bank of America has recruited four senior investment bankers as part of a strategy to strengthen its position in global technology dealmaking.

According to internal communications seen by Reuters, the bank appointed Gary Kirkham from Centerview Partners as executive vice chair with responsibility across several sectors. Kirkham previously spent more than two decades at Bank of America before leaving to help build Centerview’s technology practice.

The bank also hired Jason Rowe from Goldman Sachs as global co head of technology investment banking. Rowe will work alongside Matthew Sharnoff to lead the bank’s global technology investment banking group.

Two additional appointments were also confirmed. Mahir Zaimoglu will join as head of technology, media and telecommunications mergers and acquisitions investment banking, while Patrik Czornik will serve as co head of EMEA technology, media and telecommunications investment banking. Both executives previously worked at JPMorgan Chase and will be based in London.

The new hires come as Bank of America seeks to expand its market share in technology related mergers and acquisitions, an area that remains one of the most active segments in global investment banking.

The recruitment drive follows several senior departures from the bank’s technology group in recent months. Former head of global technology, media and telecommunications investment banking, Kevin Brunner left last year to join JPMorgan as global chairman of investment banking and mergers and acquisitions, while another senior banker, Ric Spencer, moved to Citigroup.

Industry analysts say the appointments reflect intensifying competition among major global banks to secure leading roles in technology sector deals as corporate consolidation and investment in digital infrastructure continue worldwide.
